Aves diversity: An eye catching infographic

Birds, also known as Aves, are a group of endothermic vertebrates. They are characterised by feathers, toothless beaked jaws, the laying of hard-shelled eggs, a high metabolic rate, a four-chambered heart, and a strong yet lightweight skeleton. Birds are a cosmopolitan group, with several species that are very important to human economy and subsistence. However, the climate change threatens the aves diversity.

The scientists Dehorterand and Guillemain study the aves diversity. They published a paper entitled Global diversity of freshwater birds (Aves). According to the authors, “among the 10,000 birds species living on earth, 5% (e.g., 560) need imperatively freshwater habitat in order to satisfy at least one of their life history traits. About 11 completed families could even disappear if their wetland habitat left. About 10% (58) of these can be considered as endemic. Africa contains the biggest number of endemic (20) and more precisely Madagascar.”

Using illustrations to show Aves diversity

Then, to call attention to this topic, we’ve created an infographic with a lot of aves illustrations. We strongly believe that science can be beautiful and understandable. Besides that, images are a powerful tool to reach more people and catch their attention.
