Extinct animals coming back, is that right?
Have you ever heard about the Long Now Foundation? Well, this group of scientists is working to bring back from extinction animal species. It is not about having fun or playing God. In fact, criteria such as ecological function and practical matters – access to tissue with good quality DNA samples for example – will be taken into account. Curious about the animals shortlisted? A new view of the Earth
A recently launched National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather satellite has been sending us amazing pictures of our planet. The images have details never seen before. The satellite called GOES-16 can be the future when it comes to weather observations and forecasting.
The satellite has two visible-light channels (composited to make the images you see in this post), and four near-infrared channels (light that is barely not visible but we can sometimes feel as heat). There’s also 10 other infrared channels that can single out “differences in the atmosphere like clouds, water vapour, smoke, ice and volcanic ash”, according to NOAA. – Dave Mosher, Science Alert
